Materials – Steatite C221 / C230

Steatite is a ceramic material based on natural raw materials. It is primarily manufactured from soapstone (talc), clay, and feldspar. The densely sintered special-grade Steatite C221 achieves high mechanical strength and excellent electrical insulation at favorable material and production costs. By using further additives, low high-frequency losses can be achieved. Due to its low shrinkage, the material is ideal for the cost-effective production of components with tight tolerances. Furthermore, its raw material base is the least abrasive and most tool-friendly of all ceramic materials, making it particularly well-suited for the dry pressing process. For special purposes, such as heating cartridges, porous Steatite C230 is used. It features lower strength but can still be machined with tools after sintering and is characterized by good thermal shock resistance.

Main application areas:

  • Electrotechnics and electronics
  • Electrical heating technology
  • Other industries
Application example "Tubes and Shafts"

Applications in Detail

Electrotechnics and Electronics

Electrotechnics and Electronics

  • IInsulators: High-voltage insulators, insulator bodies for electrical fuse elements and in high-frequency technology

  • Safety technology: NH-type safety body, socket.

  • Switching and control technology: Socket, control housing, thermostat housing

  • Support and enclosures: Halogen housings, lamp sockets (including UV/IR lamps), supports for resistors and potentiometers

Electrical Heating Technology

Its heat resistance and insulating properties make Steatite suitable for heating applications.

  • Heating elements: Carrier material for electric heating elements (e.g., in irons, cooktops), heater wire carriers, parts for heating elements (often porous steatite)

  • Heat storage components: Components in electrical heat storage systems

Other Industries

  • Automotive industry: e.g., nozzles for auxiliary heaters

  • Catalysis: as catalyst carrier, e.g., in petrochemical processes, exhaust gas cleaning and fuel cells, as it withstands high temperatures and has a beneficial porous structure

  • Model building: Porous Steatite C230 is also used for model parts because it can still be mechanically processed after firing

Advantages of Steatite

  1. Excellent electrical insulation properties
  2. High temperature resistance
  3. Good mechanical strength
