Materials – Cordierite C410 / C520
As a ceramic material, cordierite is particularly characterized by its very low thermal expansion and excellent thermal shock resistance. It is ideal for rapid temperature changes, while its high electrical insulation is utilized in electro-thermal engineering. A distinction is made between porous Cordierite C520 and dense Cordierite C410. The porous variants have lower strength but offer even higher thermal shock resistance, as mechanical stresses can be dissipated within the pores.
The primary fields of application for cordierite ceramics are environments with high thermal loads and temperature fluctuations, serving as insulating material and carriers for heating elements in electrical applications (e.g., heating resistors).
Applications in Detail
Electrical Engineering and Electronics
-
Insulators in heaters, thermostats, and fuses.
-
Carriers for heating resistors in electrical heating cartridges and other heating elements.
Further Fields of Application
-
Available in various forms such as tubes, plates, bushings, and discs.
-
Due to its low thermal conductivity, it is also used in vacuum applications.
